The top hotels of the contemporary international chains are usually easier to navigate as theor lobbies are more spacious. I am thinking of Marriott and Meridien, Ritz, Hilton Park and Plaza. I have less/no experience with Hyatt, Grand and Kempinski.
One key determinant is the use of the lift without or with the room card. In this layer, I know only of the Meridien where lifts are "free".
